Line marking removal in Wollongong and the Illawarra
When a layout changes, the old lines have to go. Two sets of lines on the ground confuse drivers and walkers, and the new layout never looks right.
We take off old lines, arrows and stencils in car parks, warehouses, roads and industrial sites across Wollongong, the Illawarra and Sydney.
When lines need to come off
- A car park is laid out again, with spaces moved or added.
- A warehouse floor changes use, or the racking moves.
- Lines were marked in the wrong place.
- Old walkways or arrows no longer lead anywhere.
- Old paint has started to flake and lift.
- A tenant moves out and the reserved stencils have to go.
How we take them off
- Blacking out. We paint over the old line in black, so drivers see one clean layout, not two.
- Grinding. A grinder takes the old paint off the surface. The dust is extracted and the waste is carted away.
- Water blasting. High-pressure water takes lines off and gets the surface ready for new paint.
Which way we go depends on the surface and what's going down next.
A thin line comes off much quicker than a solid painted area, which takes overlapping passes. That's why we look first.
Then the new layout
The new layout goes down once the old lines are gone. Same crew, same visit where the job allows it.
Work we've done
- At BlueScope's Port Kembla steelworks, we've ground off worn markings and renewed them. We also blacked out about a dozen pedestrian crossings and replaced them, inside a working plant over three night shifts.
- At Toyota Albion Park, we ground off old flaked paint. Then we acid etched and pressure washed the driveway the day before painting it.
- At the Figtree Hotel, the old paint was blacked out before a new NO EXIT stencil went down.
- At Wollongong Train Station, for Transport for NSW: car share spaces blacked out, about 7.6 by 5.4 metres.
- At Dunmore, for D4C: about 200 metres of road markings and chevrons blacked out.
- At Oak Flats Police Station: 9 old lines blacked out and 8 new ones marked.
- At Corpus Christi Catholic High School in Oak Flats: seven out of bounds lines blacked out.
- At New Day Church in Figtree: a yellow crossing blacked out and replaced in white, and an arrow moved 3 metres.
- At Woolworths Unanderra: old One Way and No Parking stencils blacked out at the BWS.
- At Plush in Warrawong, for Knight Frank: old stencils blacked out.
- For Wollongong Strata: 12 arrows ground off, with the dust vacuumed up.
- For Cleary Bros: old line marking ground off.
Questions we get asked
Will the old line still show?
Blacking out covers the line and doesn't take it off, so it can show through as the black paint wears. Grinding takes the paint off, but it can leave a mark on the surface. We'll tell you what to expect when we measure.
What affects the price?
How much has to come off, whether it's lines, stencils or solid painted areas, and what the surface is like. Night and weekend work also changes it. We measure first, so the written price is for your site.
How long does it take?
It depends on how much is coming off. When we measure, we can tell you how long we'll be on site.
Can you take lines off inside a warehouse?
Yes. The grinder dust is vacuumed up and the waste is carted away.
Can you take off just a stencil or a few lines?
Yes. We've ground off a single stencil before. Line marking jobs have a minimum charge.
Can you work after hours?
Yes. We work nights, weekends and shutdowns, so your site can keep running.
Can you mark the new layout too?
Yes. The same crew marks the new lines, in the same visit where the job allows it.
